What is Microchimerism?
It is a cluster of cells transferred from the unborn baby to the pregnant mother. These cells remain inside the mother’s blood after baby’s birth and for the rest of her life.
Your child is pumping around your heart for a lifetime, long after they have gone to school, gone to college, got married, have their own babies, and become grandparents themselves.
Not only are you always connected emotionally, but also physiologically as proven by science. Microchimerism is unusually named in a rather ghostly, poetic manner. Perhaps a mother poet Ph.D discovered this phenomenon?
This bond makes much sense of the pain felt when separated from a piece of you for periods of time or when your child suffers. And the sheer joy felt when you reunite and when they thrive.
We give so little recognition to the extraordinary miracle of all things Mother in our culture. We must not only recognize her, but exalt her, shower her with our praise and respect. And our grandmothers should be worshipped like a deity.
